In August 1997, Health Plan Select (HPS) opened its doors as the area’s
only local option in health insurance.
The idea was to provide a health plan
dedicated to improving the health
and well being of the citizens of
northeast Georgia.
In the beginning,
HPS offered a network of 125
physicians to businesses in Athens-Clarke and its five surrounding counties. Today, the HMO (health
maintenance organization) offers a network of more
than 650 physicians to businesses in 18 counties of northeast
Georgia. Over 90% of licensed physicians in northeast
Georgia are in our network.
